The ramp is located within Kincaidston Play Park and as soon as it had been completed and opened, young people rushed to start using it. It is intended to serve as a barrier separating the main park from the football pitch, as an alternative to installing a fence between them, as well as something for kids with skateboards to practice their tricks on.
It was Chris Cullen, a councillor for Ayr East, who came up with the idea, but it has taken a year for the ramp to actually be added to the park after safety checks and a survey of the site were carried out. Poster printing is sometimes used to let people know about new amenities in the area.
Speaking to the Daily Record, Cullen stated that young people in the town had responded positively to the addition of the ramp, before adding:
“It can be used by skates, skateboards, scooters and bikes – it’s a great piece of equipment. A lot of the older kids chill out here at night also, just sitting on the top and chatting.”
He concluded that they were hoping to add grind rails and other improvements.
