A vacant piece of land in Ayr that used to be occupied by a prominent sawmill could be set for redevelopment, if Plans that have been submitted to the council are given the go ahead.
The land in question is situated in Heathfield Road, Ayr and was formerly home to Alexander Sawmills. That facility was shut down decades ago though and the site has been lying empty ever since. A previous bid to build a supermarket and housing on the land fell through, but plans for a new ‘mixed use development’ have now been submitted to South Ayrshire Council.
The Ayr Advertiser states that these plans include a charging hub for electric vehicles, a variety of retail outlets, a drive-through store and a garden centre. Graphic Design Services in the local area can help companies show what they envisage their new developments looking like.
It has been over 10 years since all of the buildings associated with Alexander Sawmills were knocked down. The land has not been used for anything else during that period.
Alexander Sawmills is now seeking guidance on whether it needs to have an environmental impact assessment carried out at the site. That would be a precursor to the submission of a comprehensive planning application at some point down the line.
No word on the date for a decision has been announced.
