The project is the idea of Ayr Renaissance, a regeneration organisation dedicated to improving the area, and the group aims to concentrate on the section of the Riverside from the Auld Brig to the New Bridge.
The business plan for the development of both the Riverside and Ayr North has already received the approval of South Ayrshire Council, and residents of the town have also indicated that they are in favour of seeing investment in these districts. They have expressed a desire to see new restaurants there, but the project should also benefit existing businesses – including the likes of Print companies in Ayr that are able to supply business card printing for any new firms opening.
The secretary for the community council of Fort Seafield and Wallacetoun, Olena Stewart, commented:
“It is good news as there has been nothing happening at that end of the town. People haven’t been venturing there because there is nothing to entice them. We should use our town centre for enjoyment – not just shopping. It would be fabulous in this weather.”
