The Scottish Government is currently discussing the issue of getting the sport going again with Scottish Racing and the provisional plan is for Ayr Racecourse to host the first event. All horse racing in the country was put on indefinite hold back in the middle of March, when the lockdown was first imposed throughout the UK.
If the planned race goes ahead, it would happen behind closed doors to fit in with the ongoing social distancing rules. In normal times, flyer printing provided by local Print shops can be used to promote upcoming race meetings.
In total, 24 race meetings could take place at courses in Scotland over the summer, under Plans from the British Horseracing Authority that are currently awaiting approval, with Ayr Racecourse scheduled to host seven of them.
Speaking to the Daily Record, Scottish Racing’s Dennis Illey stated:
“We are fully prepared to stage race meetings in a strictly controlled environment once they decide the time is right to resume racing.”
