Powerhouse proved worthy of its name during its original incarnation, managing to bring top bands like The Waterboys, Simple Minds, Def Leppard and Iron Maiden to perform in Ayr. It was launched in 1979 and ran until the 2000s, but now, the son of the woman who first started it up is bringing the event back to town post-pandemic.
David Grant told the Daily Record that he hopes music fans will enjoy the revived event, the first night of which is being called ‘The Waking of the Beast’. Powerhouse was first started by his mother, Annie Scott, and Tom Jones, a local DJ.
Grant went on to say:
“I can’t think of a better time to do it. If there was ever a time where people are going to go ‘gees, we need to get out and blow off steam and have a really good night’, it’s going to be at the end of Covid-19.”
