New owner for fish shop in Ayr

A hugely popular fish and chip shop in Ayr that closed its doors for the last time recently is set for a re-launch next year, with the news that a new owner will be taking it over.

The Wellington Restaurant had been a beloved fixture on the local landscape since the late 1960s, having been owned and run by the Ianotti brothers for the whole time. It’s ‘Fish Friday’ offer drew hungry hordes from not just Ayr but also Lanarkshire, Glasgow and further afield – including Ireland. However, it was forced to close up earlier this year when co-owner Roberto Ianotti retired for health reasons.

Now, the shop in the Sandgate district is set to re-open as a branch of the Blue Lagoon chain, keeping it as a traditional fish and chip shop. This company is owned by another family, the Varese’s, and already has an outlet near the High Street in Ayr.

Promotional Products provided by Ayr shops can help with the launch of new eateries. Alessandro Varese told the Daily Record that they will be fitting out the interiors of their latest shop with a tropical look, to fit with their other ones.

He then added:

“It will be a 70-seater restaurant and takeaway with home deliveries available. There will be additional seating upstairs.”

The Blue Lagoon is set to open its doors next February.
