The landlord of a pub situated not far from Ayr and that closed its doors last autumn is hoping to convert the building into new homes, stating that it will become derelict otherwise.
The Stair Inn had been a fixture in the area for almost 200 years until its closure last October, which came after a three-year-long attempt to sell it by the owners proved fruitless. Now the couple who own it, Catherine and Dave Birrell, are keen to try to save the actual building by transforming it into three terraced homes.
They have submitted a planning application for the project to East Ayrshire Council and are aiming to raise the money for it by building a villa within the grounds that will then be sold on. Brochure printing from Ayr Print shops is sometimes used to showcase new local facilities like this.
According to the Daily Record, architect Alasdair Tooze states in the application:
“The purpose of this development is to ensure the existing traditional building does not become redundant and derelict. With the rural location of the Stair Inn there is no static regular patronage to rely on.”
