The dog has been
called Bear, in tribute to the television adventurer and presenter Bear Grylls, and undertook a journey of close to 2500 miles to get to Ayr in time for Christmas from the island of Zante.
Bracken Millar, aged 23, and 29-year-old Scott Edwards encountered him on the night they arrived in Zante, before developing an attachment to the pooch as he continued to follow them around.
Edwards told the local press that they saw several stray dogs and opted to feed them as they appeared hungry, with Bear subsequently refusing to let them go:
“From there it just escalated, we’d go to see him along with other dogs first thing in the morning and we knew by the end of the holiday he had to come back to Scotland with us.”
A period of eight weeks was needed to carry out all of the necessary checks before Bear could be allowed into the country, and the pair collected him from Manchester, to live alongside their Highland Terrier called Milo.
