Authors representing the organisation took the top awards for six different categories in the contests, while overall the club won 24 prizes, marking an increase of two on its haul of last year.
A novel called ‘Till the Dust Settles’, written by Pat Young, was one of the big winners, while another AWC member, Dorothy Gallagher, won prizes for two different Books.
She claimed a first prize for her novel entitled ‘The Way of It’, while one called ‘Ice Child’ secured a second-place award. However, the success of club members was not limited to competition gongs, as Young also earned herself the services of a professional literary agent.
Girvan-based Rhona Anderson, the president of the club, told a reporter from the Carrick Gazette:
“I know the club oozes with talented writers but for so many AWC members to have their writing celebrated is fantastic.”
