Belocine Musolo is one of the nominees for the 2021 Prince’s Trust and TK Maxx & Homesense Awards, where she will compete in the category ‘Natwest Enterprise’. The purpose of these awards is to honour those who have risen above challenging circumstances to make a success of their lives, while also contributing something positive to the areas they live in.
Musolo is a clothes designer who comes from a French-Congolese background, and she lived in Paris before moving to Ayr. Now, she runs a company called Nephtali Couture, which offers colourful designs that draw on African culture. Speaking to the Daily Record, Musolo stated that she had the idea when walking around the town dressed in her ethnic clothing and residents asked where the clothes came from, adding:
“Then it was a revelation: I would create a brand for the people of Scotland – and everyone else – to feel good, stylish and unique in African printed clothes! I would bring colour to Scotland.”
The finals of these awards, when the winners will be announced, will take place during the spring.
