The stamps have been produced to commemorate 50 years of the Doctor being on our television screens. Whilst the stamps are available throughout Scotland and the rest of the UK, one postmaster from Ayrshire is particularly excited about their arrival.
Stephen Cooper, who is in charge of the Prestwick Cross post office, has been a Doctor Who fan for decades and has been growing his collection of memorabilia for the last 37 years. Stephen commented on his collection and on the new stamps, saying:
“I’ve been collecting since I was a boy and I store it on the landing at the house. I have a few really old ones that I think must be quite rare. My collection’s right up to the eaves, I have a very understanding wife.
“I’ve kept a selection of the stamps by for myself. It’s a really big deal. Doctor Who fans are big collectors and one-off stamps like this attract people as well.”
Stamp collecting, part of philately, the wider study of stamps, is a popular hobby for many people. In addition to stamps, some people will also extend their collections to include commemorative items such as notepaper or Envelopes of note; many of which have been produced using Stationery printing.
Ayr post offices are stocking the limited-edition stamps now and fans of the Doctor are being urged to get in quick to ensure they get hold of some.
