The money, which is coming from the Ayrshire College Foundation, will be divided between the campus in the town and the one in Kilwinning. It will enable the provision of a range of new facilities for the computing, business, health, and social care and hospitality students, as well as a revamp of student support areas.
Alongside cutting-edge technology for the business and computing departments, the cash will also be used to create a simulated luxury hotel room, to be employed as part of the hospitality training course. Once the work is complete, the college will be able to use brochure printers in Ayr and other parts of the region to make sure the new facilities are showcased in its prospectus.
Dunk told the Ayr Advertiser:
“This has been a truly historic week for Ayrshire College which demonstrates how committed we are to raising the aspirations of the people and communities of Ayrshire.
“Investing in our Ayr and Kilwinning campuses means that we will increase opportunities for students in North and South Ayrshire.”
Dunk announced the investment during a partnership evening with Ayrshire employers, which the college hosted, and which utilised the skills of the hospitality staff and students.
