A tenpin bowling team based within Ayr has launched a campaign to raise money so they can travel abroad to compete in a top international competition.
The team is called Jedibowling YBC, and it is made of up five young people from the town - Ben Wallace, Isla and Aaron Claxton, Kelsi Cuthbert and Sarah Scott. Their team meets up for tenpin bowling twice a week, on Saturdays and Tuesdays, and they have been so successful that they have managed to secure a place in the European Youth Championships.
However, the event is scheduled to be held in Helsinki, and the team are short of the funds needed to pay for the costs involved. Scottish Tenpin Bowling provides them with some financial support, and they often pay for many of the travelling and accommodation costs themselves, but further help is needed this time due to the distance.
Flyer printing supplied by shops in Ayr is one of the ways in which people who are running fundraisers like this one can raise awareness of them, as a complement to online promotions.
Jedibowling YBC take part in twice-weekly league matches, and spend Sundays training. Their base is on Miller Road in Ayr, and they are coached by James Claxton.
The European Youth Championships will be taking place between 23 March and 1 April. Donations may be made via the team’s GoFundMe page online.
