The Beresford Girls’ Choir disbanded 45 years ago, following the sudden death of its conductor Sam Duncan. Many of those who were part of the choir are still living in Ayr and the nearby area. Sam’s granddaughter Kirsty told the Ayr Advertiser that she has met a number of women who used to sing with the choir and this is why she is hoping to get them back together.
While Sam Duncan himself is no longer here, his two decades of work with the choir has not been forgotten. The annual Ayrshire Music Festival features the Beresford Trophy as a direct tribute to his legacy. Music festivals often include their Logo Design when creating promotional Posters for the event.
Now Kirsty, who is aged 33, hopes that she can find the former choirgirls through social media and other means for a further celebration of her granddad. She explained:
“My main thing is to try and get as many people there as possible. People who went to the school between 1954 and 1974 are most likely still alive but may be online so hopefully they can come to the reunion.”
