It was the eighth time that this event had been held, with the local charity benefiting from the efforts of participants this time around being the Ayrshire Hospice, from which members of staff were among those who chose to enter.
A number of those taking part in the walk did so clad in fancy dress, with the event beginning at Ayr Racecourse from 10:00 pm. It was not difficult for residents to spot the brightly coloured walkers as they made their way through the town, and thousands of pounds were raised as a result.
Ayrshire Hospice assistant fundraising manager, Tracey Corrigan, told the Daily Record:
“We were absolutely over the moon with the turnout. Over 750 walkers of all ages took part and we would like to thank each and every one for their time, energy and commitment.”
She added that the event had benefited from reasonable weather on the day, which – together with the lively costumes worn by many participants – had helped to create a cheerful atmosphere throughout.
Local charity events such as this one, which generated more than £75,000, can always take advantage of places that supply poster printing, should they need help in getting the word out to people.
