Amanda Rogers and Zoe Hunter, aged 30 and 29 respectively, launched They Bake as a home business during February 2020 – just a month prior to the COVID-19 virus hitting the country. They have been promoting the business using the social media sites Instagram and Facebook, with orders for their baked treats going through the roof in the months since, which they partly credit to the lockdown.
Now, this success means that they will be moving into a shop of their own, located on Newmarket Street, in Ayr’s town centre. They will occupy the shop that was previously home to West Coast Fisheries. New shops often rely on flyer printing as a way of promoting themselves to the community when they open.
Speaking to the Daily Record, Hunter stated that they had imagined the business as simply a home delivery venture at first, before adding:
“Obviously the pandemic started and we started doing postal orders, people collecting from the house and us delivering in Ayr and Prestwick. I definitely think the pandemic helped us grow. We just couldn’t believe how much it took off.”
They Bake will open in April.
