Gillian Anderson, aged 21, has secured a technician apprenticeship lasting three years, after displaying impressive determination to succeed in her chosen profession during her student days.
This drive extended to gaining the place at Audi, as she opted to call the manager on her own initiative, when she discovered that there was a vacancy for an apprentice.
This led to the manager offering her a three-day trial, during which she made such a favourable impression that it was extended to one week – before she was given a full apprenticeship at the end of that time.
Motor vehicle technician is the job she has always dreamed of and she told All Media Scotland she was thrilled to have this opportunity:
“I’ve always been interested in cars; I basically grew up in a garage! I’d say college was the first time I’d ever done things properly on real cars though.”
Her former college lecturer, John Hunter, stated that she had been really committed during her time at the college and he wasn’t surprised that Ayr Audi had been impressed by her.
