Ayrshire hoteliers look to expand

A husband and wife team of hoteliers is looking to expand their business, just one year after opening an Italian restaurant.

Malcolm and Karen Simpson, the owners of SimpsInns, announced that they are set to buy North Gailes leisure centre. Located next to the couple's Irvine hotel, it will add to the total number of hotels in the portfolio, which includes The Riverside Inn and The Old Loans Inn in Ayr.

Making the announcement at the firm's annual staff awards 'Oscars', hosted at their own Si! restaurant, Malcolm said:

“For several years now our company has enjoyed a period of sustained growth and with each new project we have brought something new to the marketplace.

“We now have the opportunity to enhance the existing product at The Gailes with the prospect of creating a stand-out leisure and resort hotel here in the heart of Ayrshire."

With brochure printing for the new venture set to start soon, it will also incorporate the work of their other firm, tour operator Wilkinson Travel Services. Malcom said:

“This is another very exciting chapter in the SimpsInns story”

When finalised, the North Gailes deal will take the total number of employees to more than 200. That will make the couple among the biggest employers n the local area.

The deal is set to be signed in February.
