What's Happening in Tunbridge Wells, England…

Tunbridge Wells FC fans enjoy a day at Wembley

A record number of fans recently joined Tunbridge Wells Football Club on their journey to Wembley stadium in London for what was one of the biggest games in the history of the club.

Thousands of fans watched the team’s recent game against Spennymore Town in the FA Vase final - 12,572 to be precise.

The supporters descended upon Wembley in all of their red and white glory, waving flags and banners carrying messages of encouragement. Many had chosen to use the help of printing companies. Tunbridge Wells FC certainly felt the power of the support of the fans by finding the strength to score in the 78th minute of the game, despite being two-nil down at the time.

Josh Stanford, who scored the goal, commented on it, saying:

“It was an amazing moment, and I'll never, ever forget it. Obviously I'm gutted that the team didn't win.”

One of the supporters who travelled to the game, Garry Gatt, spoke to This is Kent about the atmosphere at the time of the goal, saying:

“It was electric. I have been to World Cup football and the crowd went as ballistic as they did for the goal. It was as good as England scoring in a World Cup. It was just fantastic they scored.”

They may have been defeated by two goals to one at the match, but the mood continued to be jubilant amongst the Kent side’s fans as they made their way home.
