New Aldi outlet planned for Tunbridge Wells
German supermarket chain Aldi is to open a new store in Tunbridge Wells.
The location planned for the branch of Aldi is the former site of Toys R Us in the Great Lodge Retail Park, situated on Longfield Road. The international retailer for toys entered administration in 2018, leaving the property empty.
An application for planning was submitted by the retail giant through a third party development company to the Borough Council of Tunbridge Wells at the close of 2018. The application requested that food and drink be added to the uses of the vacant retail unit.
It was previously believed that the German chain sought to set up a store at a site near Eridge Road to rival its competitor Sainsburys, but it seems now those plans have since been cancelled in favour of the Great Lodge location.
The Tunbridge Wells outlet will be further step in Aldi’s ultimate ambition to operate a network of over 1,000 stores throughout the UK and Ireland by 2022. Supermarkets such as Aldi can advertise in-store offers to the general public with the aid of flyer printing services when opening a new branch.
The opening of the Tunbridge Wells supermarket is set for November 2019 and Aldi is currently advertising employment vacancies for the new store via the recruitment section of its website.
