What's Happening in Tunbridge Wells, England…

Appeal for Tunbridge Wells photographer underway

A fundraising campaign for a photographer from Tunbridge Wells started recently.

Pat Pope is a photographer who has taken lots of celebrity pictures. Pope, who was brought up in Tunbridge Wells, has produced images of icons like David Bowie. He has been affected by a stroke at the age of 52 and people are rallying around to help him. Poster printing from Tunbridge Wells can be used to promote events.

Ivan Pope, the brother of Pat, explained the rationale behind the fundraising effort to Kent Live:

“Whatever happens Pat’s going to have a long-term recovery. He has always worked as a freelancer, so in the shorter term we just wanted to take the financial worries off him.”

During the era of Britpop, Pope took photographs of Oasis and Tony Blair. He also became an important figure in the local music scene. A night will be put on to raise funds for him during August. The Forum has been selected as the venue.

Mark Davyd is one of the owners of the independent music hub. He explained that ticket sales for the night have been brisk. Lots of groups have volunteered to play on the evening.

Meanwhile, friendly messages and donations have poured in. Oasis members have already demonstrated their goodwill. The line-up for the event has not been finalised, but it could be a memorable occasion.
