The Swindon and District Caledonian Society's Ceilidh and Burns Supper, in honour of Scotland's national poet on the anniversary of his birth, will be held in the town in January.
There is a full Scottish menu planned for guests. Those attending can sample a variety of traditional Scottish dishes, everything from ‘neeps and tatties’ to, of course, Scotland's famous national dish, haggis. The only acceptable drink to accompany the traditional Burns Night address will be a dram of Scotch Whisky.
This may be a cultural event but it is also an opportunity to meet, mix and make new friends. Everyone is welcome to come along and to join in with the festivities. There will be dancing, which will almost certainly include a selection of traditional Scottish dances led by Dance Caller, Paul. A raffle is also due to be held and it is expected that the Ceilidh itself will run long into the night.
There is a requirement for formal and traditional dress. Ladies are advised to wear quality dresses and ‘flats’, whereas gentlemen should opt for suits, tuxedos or traditional Scottish dress.
Tickets cost £46.95 and must be paid upfront. Poster printing is often used by organisers of cultural events such as these to promote them within the local community.
The Ceilidh and Burns Supper will take place between 7:15pm and 11.30pm on Friday 23rd January at the Marriot Hotel in Swindon.
