Tom O’Mahony, the chief executive at Dublin-based Origin, explained:
“Digital technologies have the potential to support the delivery of dynamic and highly customised crop management strategies to optimise gross margin at farm level.”
O’Mahony suggested that the expertise in Resterra would add value to Origin. Furthermore, he said that the brand reputation of the Swindon enterprise had been a factor prior to the purchase being made.
Ben Gillingham, one of the founders of Resterra, paid tribute to Origin. In particular, he praised the digital capacity of the Irish outfit. Gillingham stated that the agricultural sector currently has to cope with rapid change. He argued the deal could help provide an appropriate service for agricultural businesses that wish to speed up their decision-making processes.
The idea behind the acquisition is that many farmers could improve their yields by employing big data packages. Soil analysis may enable agricultural businesses to upgrade their performance. Gillingham and other former Resterra staff will continue to work on projects despite the shift in corporate ownership.
