The entire event was organised and managed by the students themselves, and was held in the Main Hall and Avenue section of the college on 10th December.
Swindon College Students Union took on most of this organisation, and all money raised from the market will be divided between Cancer Research and the Prospect Hospice, which is located in Wroughton.
Alongside the students, dozens of residents turned up on the day to search through the various stalls at the market for potential Christmas presents, and show their backing for the efforts of the students.
Like other charitable fundraisers in the area, the winter market was able to make use of publicity poster printing in Swindon to help guarantee a good turnout.
Among the stalls were sellers of homemade jewellery, crafts and accessories, Mrs Sherwood’s Fancy Cakes, and the Bunny Pumpkin Boutique, ensuring there was something for all tastes. Local singer Jimmy Moore and the college’s foundation learning department supplied music.
A spokesperson stated on the student union website:
“We had a great day at the Winter Market with the union managing to raise just under £320 for Cancer Research and Prospect Hospice.”
The spokesperson added that the union was considering a similar fundraiser to be held during Easter.
