Swindon student wins business award

James Peacock, a business student from Swindon, recently won a prestigious postgraduate prize from the Institute of Business Ethics (IBE).

Mr. Peacock, who is 34, received recognition from IBE for a powerful essay he wrote about the problem of water poverty. He stated that he wishes to build a career in the area of business ethics and he hopes to push the sustainability agenda further forward. As a result, he may need to order Presentation Folders from Swindon as his professional career evolves. Mr. Peacock has told the Swindon Advertiser:

"This award will give me a real boost in realising the career I desire, and hopefully raise the profile of the work on water poverty in the UK.”

The Gordon Cook Foundation (GCF) generously supported the competition run by IBE. GCF provided prizes of £1,000 for the respective winners of the different categories.

The director of IBE, Philippa Foster Back, holds a CBE. She has revealed that the number of competition entries had doubled from the year before.

Ms. Foster Back, who has three decades of corporate experience, has explained the surge in interest in the contest as being related to the greater focus that is being placed on business ethics at universities these days.

The extra stress on corporate ethics has been linked to the aftermath of the international recession by Professor Peter Singer. Ms. Foster Back has said that the impact of the competition might be that ethics are considered during the later careers of the participants.
