Swindon residents use Christmas jumpers to raise money

Personnel at employment agency C&D Recruitment, based at College Court in Swindon, have worn special Christmas jumpers to raise funds for the Save the Children charity.

The activities at the business were mirrored by pupils at a local school and by staff working at a nearby John Lewis.

Kath Curr, a manager at the recruitment firm, said:

“We are very happy to know that the money we raise for the charity will stay local. There is a lot of poverty in Swindon, which some people may not know. We have got links with various organisations for children, such as those who may need fostering, adoption, or shelter.”

Ms Curr brought forward the charitable activity of her enterprise ahead of that being attempted by other groups. She has said her aim in doing so was to advertise the good cause. Using flyer printing in Swindon may have been another way of drawing attention to the fundraising effort.

The recruitment agency managed to attract donations of around £120, with staff collecting the money in a number of ways, including the selling of cakes. There was also a competition held to decide on the best jumper.

According to Ms Curr, the eventual winner of the contest was Suzy Kay, who really got into the spirit of the event by wearing a jumper which featured a light-up Father Christmas character on the front. Every year, C&D Recruitment selects a different charity for its various fundraising actions and staff are thought to be already excited about 2014’s events.
