The Russian State Ballet and Opera House is on tour and due to give a performance of Puccini's 'Madama Butterfly' in Swindon in mid-April.
The story is a true story that takes place in Japan at the dawn of the 20th century. It tells the tale of the love affair and marriage between a US naval officer, Lieutenant B.F. Pinkerton and a teenage Japanese geisha girl, Cio-Cio-San. But this relationship is one that is doomed to failure.
His bride rejects her culture and becomes a Christian in the face of hostility from her family. Pinkerton then leaves both his wife and Japan unaware that he has a son called Delore (Sorrow), When he returns, he demands custody of the child and this ultimately triggers the events that lead to heartbreak and tragedy.
It was Puccini’s personal favourite piece, written in conjunction with his librettists Guiseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica and contains some of the best-known arias in operatic history. These include 'Love Duet', 'One Fine Day' and as well as the 'Humming Chorus', all popular with opera fans for more than a century.
Tickets cost £35.50 inclusive of a booking fee. Graphic design makes a valuable contribution when it comes to staging a musical or theatrical production.
Madama Butterfly has a starting of 7.30pm on Thursday 14th April at The Wyvern Theatre, Swindon.
