Swindon businesses feature in list of notable firms

Nine companies from North Wiltshire and Swindon have been recognised in a list of inspiring organisations.

The 1,000 Companies to Inspire Britain report was recently published by the London Stock Exchange. This report, which has attracted praise for focusing on successful SMEs, included five outfits located within Swindon. These businesses, two of which are active in the construction sector, could celebrate their achievements with newsletter printing from a local printing company. Xavier Rolet, the chief executive for the London Stock Exchange, said:

“High-growth SMEs are the driving force behind the UK economy, developing the skills, jobs and growth we need. But ambition alone is not enough; their success must be highlighted and their growth properly supported with appropriate finance.”

One of the listed enterprises from Swindon was a construction company called Beard. This family firm had already received recognition as the PwC South West of England Business of the Year for 2014. Turnover at this firm has increased massively since 1999, while profits have passed the £2.5 million level. The success which has been achieved this century has happened while Mark Beard has been chief executive.

Mr Beard has highlighted some of the reasons behind the growth of his firm. He has specifically mentioned the influence of investing in training. In addition, he has pointed out the importance of keeping a lid on costs. The company has not restricted itself to one type of construction as it has been behind new building and it has delivered a maintenance service.
