Josie Lewis of the Friends of Kembrey Grass said the area was in need of colour, after many of the planters that had been positioned within the town had subsequently been removed. She spoke to the council about the situation and, after then speaking to residents at a drop-in session at Central Library, has taken note of their ideas, which include water features and painted murals. Lewis said:
“We got lots of encouragement when people learned what we were doing. What people wanted is for there to be lots of colour.”
Lewis further explained that if companies donate or sponsor flower beds, then a lot could be achieved; that view was backed by Bill Cox, a studio member at Artsite, a charity located at Theatre Square which has been involved in maintaining the area.
His group has a number of ideas for what to do with the space, one of which involves the creation of a boules court. However, both he and Lewis are keen to hear other ideas and it is hoped that sponsors will come forward to help out.Get a Free Quote for Print
