Jonathan Wilkes, a local entertainer, is opening a centre for the performing arts in Swindon in September.
The new centre will have a focus on dance and will complement Wilkes's existing performing arts venue in the town, which specialises in acting tuition.
Wilkes has chosen the Westmead Industrial Estate as the location for the centre, which will be known as the Wilkes Academy of Performing Arts. The venue has places for 60 students, taking international as well as national and local applicants.
Wilkes, who is 35 and has worked as a TV presenter as well as performing in the West End, said that there is a "massive appetite" in Swindon for performing arts, particularly dance. The Academy has connections with Swindon College, enabling it to provide qualifications at BTEC Level 3. According to Wilkes in an interview with the Swindon Advertiser, the new centre's links with the local college are important because "who you know" can be as important as "what you know" in the entertainment industry.
With that in mind, successful students will need to network after graduating from the centre, and obtaining essentials such as digital Business Cards from a Swindon printing company should help them to make important connections effectively. There is also some assistance provided on the course, as Wilkes says his team aims to provide connections as well as education for the Academy's students.Get a Free Quote for Business Cards
