Anniversary trees to be planted in Swindon

The 50-year anniversary of a popular choir in Swindon is set to be marked by the planting of five commemorative trees, in a circle at the top of the town’s Mouldon Hill.

Kentwood Choir reached the milestone in 2014, and has provided monetary donations totalling thousands to Swindon’s Rotary Club during the years of its existence.

As a way of thanking the choir for its charitable efforts throughout the years, as well as marking its anniversary, Swindon Rotary Club is arranging for the planting of the oak trees – set to be called Kentwood Oak – on the hill within the park in north Swindon.

Over the coming years, this spot is likely to prove a popular part of town for many people, and postcard printing in Swindon may be used to ensure that souvenir Postcards can be bought.

Swindon Rotary Club’s chairman, Nigel Henham, told the Swindon Advertiser:

“They are going to be oak trees, just saplings, and we hope they will grow and develop a bit like the way the choir has grown over the years.”

The founder of the choir, Sheila Harrod, stated that she felt genuinely moved by the tribute, and that the entire choir were touched by it, as the trees would provide a lasting legacy for future generations.

The Rotary Club hopes to confirm a date for the planting of the trees within the next few weeks.
