South Reading receives new bus fleet

Passengers in the southern part of Reading will have new travelling experiences as the result of the launching of a fleet of vehicles worth around £4m.

The new buses have been designed to have low carbon emissions. They have been fitted with Wi-Fi and ports for USB charging. If Reading Buses wish to promote the use of these new vehicles, they could utilise full colour printing in Reading.

Martijn Gilbert, the chief executive officer of the bus company, has told Get Reading:

“The buses are breaking new ground in Reading as they are the first in the fleet to offer USB charging points. In addition they are the first new buses in the country to be fitted with the new high spec Italian designer seats which are lighter weight and have covers in our new, and exclusive, Reading Buses design.”

The buses have been allocated specific routes already. They will go down Northumberland Avenue and along Whitley Wood.

The vehicles have been fitted with diesel engines which have been designed with environmental concerns in mind. The buses have been put together in the UK. Each bus has got nearly 90 seats inside.

Reading Repertory Theatre has helped to celebrate the launch of the fleet of buses. Plans were made to host musical and theatrical performances for the public within Broad Street.
