A public house in Reading will present a play based on a classic novel set in Edwardian England this spring.
Theatre devotees in Reading can enjoy a one-person production of Robert Tressell’s revered novel, “The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists”. The play is adapted by its star, Neil Gore and features live music, political conjuring tricks, projection, song and its centrepiece “The Great Money Trick”.
Venues putting on plays and other live performance sometimes count on experienced banner printing services that can supply high-quality Signs stating ticket prices, showtimes, age restrictions and other information.
With direction from Louise Townsend, the play brings the characters of the novel to life on stage. Gore has an in-depth knowledge of the material having performed it on stage in multiple editions over four decades.
The story depicts a group of impoverished painters and decorators in Edwardian times renovating the mayor’s three-storey townhouse called “The Cave” while discussing social inequality and workplace exploitation.
Receiving high praise from critics, the upcoming play has been described as tremendous and a Tour-De-Force by The Times and The Observer respectively.
The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists will now be performed live at The Butler Pub on Thursday, May 7. The venue is based in Reading at 85–91 Chatham Street, and the show begins at 7.30 pm. Admission to the play is £12 per person.
