French festival returns to Reading

A public park in Reading that dates to Victorian times is holding two days of festivities to celebrate an important date in the calendar of France.

Reading residents can enjoy family friendly entertainment and activities with a French flavour this summer. The Bastille Day Festival is returning to town for 2026 with the continued support of Reading Borough Council. With 14 successful events to its credit, the festival is a popular draw and promises a weekend of fun and relaxation for everyone who attends.

When organising national day events, planners often order decorative signage from dedicated banner printing services featuring the country’s colours like the blue, white and red of the French tricolour.

Those joining the celebrations can expect a wide range of French-themed entertainers and favoured national food and drink choices to try.

The common name in English-speaking nations for the National Day of France, Bastille Day is celebrated each year on July 14 with festivities often held on the nearest weekend.

The Bastille Day Festival 2026 will now run at Forbury Gardens in Reading on Saturday, July 11 and Sunday, July 12. The event will kick off at 11 am and ends at 5 pm.

This year, the event’s biggest sponsor is the Abbey Quarter Business District. The quarter is named after medieval royal monastery Reading Abbey, now historic ruins that lie within the award-winning parkland.
