Report predicts further growth in the Thames Valley

A big majority of companies in the Thames Valley region expect to grow during the remainder of 2016.

About 75 per cent of respondents to a regional business survey forecast growth. The research was released by a partnership of

the marketers C8 Consulting and the accountancy firm BDO LLP. The figure looks positive for firms in the Reading area. When the outlook is optimistic, there can be a jump in demand for premium Business Cards and other bespoke business items. Simon Brooker, who is leading BDO LLP in the region, told Get Reading:

“On the face of it, the economic indicators look positive. Employment levels are up, interest and inflation have been low for some time and we have greater political stability than at any time so far this decade.”

However, Mr Brooker has argued that more could still be done to bolster the economy going forward. He has suggested that extra investment is needed to insulate the economy against potential threats. In his opinion, there is room for more government intervention to increase productivity and support economic rebalancing.

This perspective was seemingly expressed in part because earlier regional surveys were even more positive about the economic prospects. Overall confidence among business leaders was at over 60 per cent just over a year ago. During the autumn of 2014, the comparable statistic was 70 per cent. According to the latest research, the level of general confidence is just over 55 per cent.
