The annual Reading Mela is due to take place in the town, over a single weekend, at the beginning of August.
Initiated in 2016, the Mela constitutes a celebration of the diverse richness of South Asian music, cuisine, and culture. It is a family-orientated event that also acts as a platform for local and aspiring artists to display their talents to a bigger audience.
There will be Indian music performed live, together with Bollywood DJs, whose sets are based around Punjabi Dhol beats. Attendees can enjoy bhangra dancing, again from Punjab, as well as classical sounds from the sub-continent, not to mention soulful Qawwali singing.
It is an opportunity to discover and shop for handcrafted goods, all to be found on the many stalls present, and to sample an array of genuine South Asian food including delicacies.
A family fun zone will be provided to help entertain the kids with activities, incorporating a street circus and a fun fair at no extra charge.
Everyone is welcome to come along, meet people, share stories, and experience the atmosphere for themselves.
One ticket costs £3.25 inclusive of a transaction fee. Business Cards can be a useful resource for those engaged in organising a community event.
The Mela is due to be held between Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th August at Palmer Park, Reading.
