The idea of the policy is that those involved in enabling recycling in the middle of Berkshire should be able to assist those who live with dementia. When the training is completed, poster printing from local printing services could be used to remind staff of relevant best practice.
Dorothy Hayes, a councillor, told Get Reading:
“Staff awareness raising through initiatives such as Dementia Friends make everyday tasks that little bit less stressful for people with dementia and their loved ones who help and support them. When a centre or venue is dementia friendly, visitors affected by the condition can trust staff to spot the Signs of a person with dementia and, understatedly, make their visit safe, comfortable and successful.”
Councillor Hayes stressed how important it is to maximise rates of recycling. She explained that recycling will become more popular if whole communities are able to access the facilities.
re3 has the contract for waste disposal in the centre of Berkshire. Its workers cater for the borough of Reading, the borough of Wokingham and the authorities for Bracknell Forest. Thousands of people are affected by dementia in the region. Linda Barnes, who works for the Alzheimer’s Society, backed the drive to boost dementia awareness.
