Business Fire Safety Week backs training

The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) has taken the opportunity of Business Fire Safety Week (BFSW) to tell firms in the Reading area to ensure that they train new personnel properly.

The timing of BFSW may be critical because companies can take on new workers after the summer ends. This move can help a business deal with the pressures of Christmas, including safety awareness training for temporary employees.

While fires have declined in Britain in recent years, the risks of commercial fires have not disappeared. Poster printing in Reading could be used by the RBFRS in future to help get its message across. Dave Phillips, an area manager and chief of protection and prevention at RBFRS, has told Get Reading:

“It is more important than ever that businesses review their fire risk assessment during this incredibly busy period. It is during this busy period that the risk of fire increases and therefore the risk of potential casualties.”

Mr. Phillips has explained how extra vigilance makes sense from a corporate perspective. The amount of disruption and cost that can be the consequence of a fire has reportedly increased in recent years. Mr. Phillips has urged commercial enterprises to implement precautionary measures.

On a nationwide basis, there were over 5,500 fires in commercial premises according to last year’s statistics. This was significantly more than the number of blazes in industrial units over the same time period.
