The North London 2-tone and Ska band Bad Manners is about to embark on a tour and is due to play Reading in mid-December.
This nine-piece outfit was founded in 1976 at Woodberry Down Comprehensive School and is closely identified with extravert singer 'Buster Bloodvessel' (Douglas Trendle). Their popularity reached its zenith as part of the rediscovery of Ska in the 80s when bands, notably Madness and The Specials, charted regularly.
1980 to 1983, saw them occupy a total of 111 weeks on the UK Singles Chart. Their initial studio LPs realised considerable sales and included 'Ska ‘n’ B' (1980), and 'Gosh It’s … Bad Manners' (1981). The band also appeared on 'Top of the Pops' and in the docu-film, 'Dance Craze' (1981).
Despite UK hit singles such as 'Lip Up Fatty, Special Brew' and 'Can Can' the Ska revival eventually dissipated. They retired and reformed on several occasions from the late 1980s onwards. In 2016, these veterans chose to celebrate their 40th anniversary with a nationwide tour and still continue to perform today.
Tickets cost £27. 50 inclusive of a transaction tax. Print shops shouldn't be underestimated as a resource when it comes to promoting a future concert or musical event.
Bad Manners' gig has a starting time of 7.30 pm on Wednesday 18th December at Sub89 & Popworld, Reading.
