Preston student wins design competition

A young student from Preston has been advertising her design skills in the best way possible, after a poster she created for a local company hit the windows of the high street.

Beth Tinker, a 21 year old who studies fashion at the University of Central Lancashire, was the winner of a recent competition where entrants had to create a campaign to advertise the Broadhurst Optometrist firm.

Beth, who is in her third year of study, devised a campaign that involved both social media marketing aimed at students, and the creation of promotional leaflets and Posters.

With the help of printing companies in Preston that were able to provide the leaflet and poster printing from her own designs, the campaign – which she called ‘Take Note’ – caught the eye of the judges.

As the winning entry, the poster has been displayed in the window of Broadhurst Optometrist and Beth, who is presently on work placement with a local fashion business, told the Lancashire Evening Post:

“It’s a great feeling to walk past the shop and see my own design in the window.

“I was shocked when my work was selected as the winner and I’ve really enjoyed the project as it’s taught me a lot about how the process works in industry.”

This was the first collaboration between Broadhurst Optometrist and UCLan, with the company seeking to tap the talent of the young people studying there.
