The events and marketing manager for the local Business Improvement District (BID), Mark Whittle, has stated that the line-up of events planned for Christmas will surpass anything organised in previous years.
Television star and pop singer Alesha Dixon has been confirmed as the headlining celebrity for the switching on of the lights, while the town’s Flag Market will host Christmas markets for more than a month.
Dixon will be arriving in Preston for the lights ceremony in the middle of next month, with this event set to take place at Fishergate, and a whole programme of entertainment for families is planned for the same day.
The Christmas markets are also due to start during November, with animated attractions, an ice rink and an alpine bar all set to feature as part of them, with the BID having put £50,000 worth of investment into Preston’s Christmas celebrations.
Speaking to the Lancashire Evening Post, Whittle said:
“It’s definitely going to be the best one we’ve ever done because it’s all very different. Not only is it going to be a long Christmas but it’s going to be a special one.”
