A celebratory event has taken place in Preston to mark the success of the Preston Guild City Games held this year.
The event saw more than 1,350 people participate in a series of sporting activities held over three days and five locations. The City Games were organised in connection with Preston Council and the partnership it had created with Shout Network, North and Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce, UCLan (the University of Central Lancashire), and event sponsor Preston College.
The celebration saw a number of businesses that played a part in the event brought together to recognise both individuals and teams with the presentation of two awards – the Fair Play award and the Spirit of the Games award. The winners were chosen by the organisers of each sport.
Amongst those who had their efforts recognised were Barbarians, who were presented with the Fair Play award and Alex’s Team, who were awarded with the Spirit of the Games title. Both squads were in the Rugby category.
Councillor Nicholas Pomfret, Mayor of Preston, spoke at the event and thanked all of the businesses that got involved, as well as those who worked behind the scenes from setting up equipment to those who used printing services to promote the event.
The event will be back next year, with the Mayor encouraging the community to continue practicing for another successful edition of the Games.
