The Preston Free Fest was organised by Andrew Speariett, who is the events manager and founder of Car Cruise North West, a motoring club.
The day featured live music, plenty of fun activities and competitions. There was also a car show, with standard and modified vehicles, and a show-and-shine contest. The music was provided by Last Minute Discos, Digital Discos, Gareth Hargreaves and Dani Gallagher.
A free-running team called the Street Monkeys entertained the crowds, while younger children and some of the adults were visited by Woody and Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story, Kung Fu Panda and Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Games had been arranged throughout the day, along with prize tombola. All of the money raised will go to the two charities. Mr Speariett said of the event:
“We do quite a bit for charity and wanted to do something for children, so we decided on a free family fun show.”
Printing companies in Preston are known to get involved with charity events like this, with poster and flyer printing often effective when it comes to raising awareness.
Preston Council was thanked by Andrew, as it promptly granted a new licence when the venue had to be changed at the last minute. Kirsty Davies and Leroy Allen, committee members of Car Cruise North West, also received thanks for their help organising the festival.
