The play 'Enchanted April' will be performed by Preston Drama Club over four days in the city towards the end of February.
The Club consists of a group of theatrical enthusiasts of mixed ages and varying experience, who perform up to six plays every season including murder mysteries, period dramas and comedies. This particular play has been adapted by Matthew Barber from a novel written by Elizabeth von Arnim.
The plot centres around two ladies, Lotty Wilton and Rose Arnott, who are tired of London in February, their drab ladies' club and monotonous marriages. They see an advertisement placed in The Times that entices them to rent out an Italian castle for a single month in April.
Lacking funds, the duo decide to seek a couple more lady companions, and are joined by a posh socialite and an older widow. The foursome becomes spellbound by Castello, and in the warm sunshine, revisit both their youth and find romance.
The play stars Lisa Gray as Lotty Wilton and Tara Kennedy as Rose Arnott, with Rebecca Moon as Caroline Bramble and Liz Proctor as Mrs Grabes. The play is directed by Stella Judson.
