Plans for more student flats in Preston

A plan for extra student accommodation within Preston may get the green light.

The idea is that student flats could be built on a plot of land which used to be home to a social club. The location is in close proximity to the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) campus. If the accommodation is constructed on the site then brochure printers in Preston might be used to showcase the property.

The benefits of the potential development have been weighed up by David Cox Architects (DCA). A statement from DCA has summed up the advantages of the proposed scheme:

“A livelier frontage to the canal side, which is to be redeveloped over the medium term into a green corridor by the University of Central Lancashire. In the short term this frontage will provide better natural surveillance to the existing playground which is underused.”

Ford Group Limited is behind the move and the developer has got DCA to come up with the Plans which have now been submitted to the relevant authority. Interested parties can look at the vision on the website of the local city council. It is possible for comments to be made in relation to the application for planning permission. The old social club has been closed since 2014.

UCLan is transforming its Preston campus at the moment and this involves working on the space surrounding the Adelphi roundabout.
