The heavy metal band Tygers of Pan Tang is on tour, plus support, and is due to play a gig in Preston in mid-March.
This five-member English outfit hails from Whitley Bay and got together in 1978, part of the new wave of groups (NWOBHM) then emerging onto the scene. The group signed with Neat Records and released several LPs into the mid-80s that proved to be a success, notably ‘Spellbound’.
The band is named after a warrior cadre that features in Michael Moorcock's Elric tales. Post-millennium, the Tygers' line-up now consists of leading vocalist/guitar Jacopo Meille, guitarists Robb Weir and Francesco Marras, Huw Holding on bass and drummer Craig Ellis.
Their most recent album releases include 2016's Tygers of Pan Tang and 2019's Ritual. The decision to take to the road is primarily motivated by the desire to promote the EP ‘A New Heartbeat’.
In support is The Loose Cut, a Leeds-based four-member alternative-rock group, who came to wider public attention in 2019 thanks to its popular performances on the festival circuit, with the single ‘Demons’ being released to much acclaim.
