Flag Market to get cinematic overhaul

Next month, Preston city centre will see its historic Flag Market transformed into an outdoor cinema as part of a citywide event aimed at attracting more families to visit the city centre.

The event, Familyfest, intends to give families a day of entertainment across various city centre locations and will be topped off with the outdoor cinema as its headline attraction.

A makeshift grandstand will be set up in the Flag Market so that crowds can watch the films free of charge. The event been set up by Preston’s BID (Business Improvement District), which is a collaboration of city centre businesses, the city council and the chamber of commerce, and the organisers are hoping that if the project turns out to be a success, then it could become a regular occurrence.

Familyfest will be running alongside Preston’s inaugural Comic Con Convention, which will be held at the Guild Hall and is expected to attract thousands of fans.

The event aims to attract as many families as possible and has gone on a promotional crusade, which involves flyer printing and poster printing, as well as online campaigns.

The event will be taking place on the afternoon of Saturday, October 25, with the first movie starting at 12:00 noon. The films on show are Disney favourite Frozen, The Chronicles of Narnia, the Lego Movie and the original version of Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory.
