Cake business in Fulwood expands

Kerry Stevens, the owner of a local cake company, used to run classes in cake production from her own home, but her success has meant that she has been obliged to secure new premises.

At Victoria’s Corner, potential cake enthusiasts can now learn to bake and decorate. Stevens may wish to promote her lessons using full colour printing in Preston.

She told Blog Preston:

“I have always baked, mostly making cakes for family and friends. It never occurred to me that I could make a living out of it. I started to take a few orders and it became a good source of income. I had other jobs – in HR, finance and facilities management – but they were starting to take a back seat to baking.”

Eventually, Stevens chose to run a baking course that took place in Myerscough College. She has said that she enjoyed this experience a lot – something that was a shock to her, because she had not been confident about speaking in public.

From there, she began to hold classes at community hubs. She has commented on how the popularity of these events grew.

Using her dining room at home enabled Stevens to teach more frequently than had been possible at the community centres. However, the classroom she established in her house was not large enough to cope with demand.
