Blackwell’s book shop ran a competition recently, encouraging local pupils around Oxford to get involved with a poster design competition that focused on the topic of history. The winning entry came from three friends at St. Ebbe’s School – Laura Wilkinson, Hannah Perry and Maya Finlayson – who created and submitted their design, hoping to win the chance to see this displayed on the high street. Their poster was selected as the winning entry and, as well as seeing their work in the public eye, they also won a selection of Books that were donated to their school as well as winning gift vouchers for themselves.
The poster that the pupils created was blown up to a massive five feet high and was displayed in the window of Blackwell’s book shop in Oxford city centre. Zool Verjee, one of the judges in the competition, spoke about the winning entry, saying:
“It won because it was very inventive and colourful and showed lots of imagination and hard work. It showcased lots of different areas of world history, from the Romans and Vikings onwards.”
This is a classic example of engaging local students with key curriculum topics using poster printing. Oxford based Emily Sargeant was the organiser of the competition. She commented on this, saying:
“The poster competition was the climax of a packed week of history workshops and other events.”
Runners up from other local schools were also announced as part of the competition.Get a Free Quote for Books
