A conference entitled ‘Pilgrimage and the Senses’ will take place at Oxford University next month.
This single-day event hosted by the university is focused on the exploration of sensory experience related to pilgrimage in history and throughout different cultures. Universities can make use of brochure printing services to create programmes that outline the schedule of events for those attending conferences.
The journal of Senses and Society was first launched in 2006 and dedicated to a revolution of the senses in social sciences and humanities. Since its beginning, there has been a surge in studies of a sensory nature, exhibitions at museums, an abundance of publications and an increase in networks for research. This conference at Oxford University intends to illuminate just how sensory perceptions shape and are shaped by pilgrimages throughout different cultures and traditions across history.
Those attending can enjoy five separate panels on topics ranging from ‘Texts and Travellers’ to ‘Objects and Memory’ and hear discourse from international experts from universities around the world. Among others, speakers include Adam Bursi from the University of Utrecht and Medardo Rosario of Chicago University.
The Pilgrimage and the Senses conference will be held on June 7 2019 and is now open for registration until May 24. Included in the ticket cost are tea and coffee during the day, after-conference drinks and lunch.
